How to Set Up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC

Add these email-authentication records in your domain’s DNS settings, using values from your email provider. Start with SPF and DKIM, then introduce DMARC in monitoring mode before considering a stricter policy.

Have this ready

  • Access to your DNS host
  • The sending services and their setup instructions
  • An inbox for DMARC reports

Step by step

  1. 1List every service that sends email using your domain, such as your mailbox provider and newsletter platform.
  2. 2In each service’s setup guide, find the SPF and DKIM DNS records it requires.
  3. 3At your DNS host, add or update the SPF TXT record. Keep one SPF record for the domain and include all legitimate senders.
  4. 4Add each DKIM record exactly as provided, including its host name and value.
  5. 5Add a DMARC TXT record at _dmarc, starting with a monitoring policy such as p=none and an email address for reports.
  6. 6Allow time for DNS changes to propagate, then check authentication results and review DMARC reports before tightening policy.
Copy DNS values carefully; changing records incorrectly can disrupt email. Never share account passwords.

I can walk you through it in a live private browser, show you the exact clicks, or do it with you and keep the recording. You log in yourself; I never see your password.

Common questions

Can I publish more than one SPF record?+

Usually no. Combine authorized senders into one SPF record, following your providers’ instructions.
